Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my practice blog for EDM 510! As this course has already revealed, technology is being incorporated through multiple avenues into the classroom and within higher education.  These technological tools can help expedite the learning process, gather prompt feedback, and overall create a more efficient learner.

Along with a gmail account, users have access to a plethora of Google provided tools (i.e.: Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive, Google Forms) that help increase efficiency.  In the comments below, please describe a way you have incorporated one of the Google provided services into the classroom or within higher education and student affairs.  Elaborate on the tool by explaining how its made things more efficient within your department or classroom.

  1. In Housing & Residence Life, we use Google Forms a lot! We use it for Mardi Gras Court nominations, our curriculum assessment, and RSVP to programs and events such as the end of the year banquet. This has helped streamline communication to make sure everything is more uniform. It also allows you the option to customize your forms, what type of answers are given, and much more. It's really helpful also to view the summary of responses. This populates all of the responses into easily understandable graphs and charts based on the type of answer allowed such as multiple choice, check all that apply, etc answers.

    1. Madeleine,

Thank you for providing those awesome examples. As a member of the Housing community here at South, I have witnessed the instances you listed and agree that the use of Google Forms has helped tremendously in our department.

  2. Actually, I first used google forms in this EDM 510 class. However, I do like it. It seems like an excellent way to streamline and integrate different forms of computer programs. It is also nice to have all of these forms “ready to share” with other people via email/Google drive. I really like Google forms and intend to use it more in the future.

    1. David,

I also appreciate Google Drive. It's a handy tool to store all your necessary documents and assists transporting said documents from compute to computer or "ready to share" as you say.

  3. Teaching science I have enjoyed Google Sheets found within Google Drive so that students can share data amongst groups and actively discuss their lab results. It has been very effective in beefing up our labs.
